The owners of this private club wanted an elegant, luxurious feeling for their website, so we went with a draped satin fabric background, further darkened by a semi-transparent content area to give sufficient contrast to the light colored text.

This site is otherwise a basic WordPress theme layout, except for a widened sidebar to accommodate calendar of events.

Just as a side note, here’s an illustration of problems we web designers run into with browser compatibility. Notice how the layout at the top of the calendar is rendered differently by three different browsers:

A good designer can write code (from scratch) to avoid these browser display discrepancies, but much of the time, for economy, we use off the shelf software modules (this calendar was generated by a free WordPress plug-in). Given the budget constraints for this project, I tweaked the CSS code as best I could and submitted the graphic above to get the client agreement that these differences in appearance were not significant.
