Donation Appeal Website
A client of mine asked me “a HUGE favor.” A 4-year old girl, granddaughter of her friend, had been diagnosed with brain cancer and her family saddled with overwhelming medical costs.
Would I build a website to collect donations for this little girl and donate my time for this family I’d never met?
I asked about the girl, her name was Savanna, and learned that she dreamed of being a princess when she grew up. (Doctors conceded that she might not make it.) This touched my heart, so I decided to build a princess castle on the web for Savanna. I told her story with slide shows of her progress and links to news stories and family blogs. This site collected significant donations for the family expenses via PayPal
In the original site, touching/clicking the heart at the bottom of the castle brought her photo up as an overlay to the welcome text that made up the body of the home page.
This site was first built in 2008. Now, some years later Savanna, has been healthy and cancer free. This was like a fairy tale come true. The site is no longer live at its original domain, but I have an archived copy on my server that you may visit.
