Showcase Site for Custom Knives
This showcase website was built on a WordPress retail sales theme. The online ordering module was disabled and orders are placed by telephone, per the business owner’s instructions.
Since each knife is hand-made with one of a kind design and construction, I provided an “already sold” section to showcase these unique knives (with price information removed).
The home page features a a slide show that automatically cycles through the knives currently for sale. Below that is a middle section with thumbnails of knives for sale, indexing into the details page for the item. At the bottom are the thumbnails of the knives previously sold, indexing into the archive page for that item.
The retail sales theme upon which this site was built became inoperative following a PHP upgrade required by the hosting company and the theme developer could not be located. At this point, I migrated all the photo and text content to a more versatile (and better supported) WordPress theme and configured it to mimic the original site, whose clean layout the clients really liked. A side bonus to this upgrade was conversion of the site to a fully mobile/responsive platform.
Mike didn’t have any kind of logo for his business, so I used Photoshop to “chisel” his business name onto one of his knives and used that as the website logo/header image:
